A check came back not confirmed. What now?
Not confirmed is an answer, not an accusation. It says a fact could not be matched, and there are only a few reasons for that. Each one calls for something different.
What the words mean on your report
Confirmed means the fact matched. Not confirmed means it did not. In progress means the check is still running, which is normal for a physical address visit in its first week. No response means we reached someone and they never answered.
Nothing in that list is a verdict on the person. A report tells you what was found so you can ask a better question.
The four reasons behind a not confirmed
A detail was entered wrongly. A digit dropped from a number, a date typed as March instead of May, a middle name in the wrong field. This is the most common cause by a wide margin.
The name is genuinely recorded differently. A married name, a middle name used daily, an English name added later, an anglicised spelling. The person is who they say they are, and the register holds a different version of the name.
Nobody answered. A guarantor who never opened the link, a former workplace that closed, a phone that no longer connects.
The facts do not match. The number belongs to somebody else, the address is not where they live, the job was not held. This is the rare one, and the one worth pausing over.
Ask before you decide
Show the person the line that did not confirm and ask them about it plainly. Ask them to read the number back to you from the card itself. Ask which name appears on their registration. Ask for a different guarantor if the first never answered. Most not confirmed lines close within a day of that conversation.
Keep the rest of the report in view. A guarantor who never replied does not undo an identity and an address that both confirmed.
When a repeat check costs you anything
If a detail was mistyped, the repeat is free. If a data partner was unavailable, the retry is free. You only pay again for a deliberate second attempt on a new person or new details, and then only for the single check being redone rather than the whole package: identity ₦2,500, a physical address visit ₦6,500, one guarantor ₦2,500, a previous employer ₦4,500.

If it really does not match
A genuine mismatch goes to our review team rather than straight onto your report, and a person looks at the evidence on both sides. You will see what was found and what the worker said about it. The hiring decision stays yours, and you make it knowing exactly which fact did not hold up.
